This workshop invites each student to lay the groundwork for creating a special story rug, one that reflects and expresses heartfelt experiences or memories or perhaps a personal journey. Focusing first on finding your story and filling it with details, the workshop then shifts to the exciting activities of designing and drafting your project on to its eventual backing. Paulette Hackman’s book Story Rugs and Their Storytellers: Rug Hooking in the Narrative Style, published last May, will serve as a jumping off point in this workshop for discussing and brainstorming various types of story rugs.  The exercises, written and/or drawn, will focus on fun, laughter, and most of all: discovery.

Pam will provide students with the tools to assist in designing and drawing their stories. She will also share different processes that can be used to transfer the conceptual drawing to a backing.  During the final day, students will create a small "story sketch" from a segment of their rug idea.  This hands-on class will take students through the process of designing, drawing, and printing the pattern to a backing. Supportive and encouraging, Pam believes that “a stress free zone” is the best setting for creative ideas to take hold.  It is an environment that provides a safe space for each individual to produce personal and meaningful art.

All classes are heald at the Capitol Plaza Hotel unless otherwise noted.  The hotel is located at 100 State Street Montpelier, Vermont.
