The Class:
Have you been waiting for the opportunity to hook the exclusive Rick ~ Rack pattern, well now is your golden opportunity. Nancy has traveled to numerous groups and Guilds throughout the country teaching this geometric with a secret twist. Each pattern is hand drawn on linen foundation, and available in two sizes- 21 x 31, and 31 x 50. The pattern is worked exclusively in # 8 cut wools. Please order directly from Nancy.
Nancy’s Large Frost Oriental is another example of choices in color planning and also includes several different methods of hooking which will be discussed in class. This rug was selected as a Celebrations winner in 2011, and it was also chosen as Peoples Choice Winner at Sauder Village Rug Week 2019.
Students are welcome to choose any pattern of their liking to work on in class. Nancy has a wide variety of skills and will discuss and demonstrate different stitch techniques that work well in hand-hooked rugs. The class will include mini lessons with display rugs, and some finishing techniques including Triple Whipped edge. Nancy encourages a relaxed environment with lots of class discussions and involvement.
Teacher Bio:
Nancy Z. Parcels began her rug hooking journey in 1999. Prior to that she dabbled in different crafts, sewing, and refinishing furniture, but her main focus was her family and raising four children. The first two years of hooking were spent on her own. She enjoyed the hunt for recycled wool and learned a lot by her mistakes, reading everything she could get her hands on pertaining to rug hooking. Fortunately, she found a local guild in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania where she met her mentor, Yvonne Miller who had been teaching since the 1970’s and had studied under Pearl McGown.
Yvonne encouraged Nancy to attend McGown training, and she became an Accredited Teacher in 2006. Several of Nancy’s rugs have been chosen as Celebrations winners and she has entered numerous juried shows and Fairs. In 2019 she was selected People’s Choice Winner at Sauder Village for her Frost Oriental. She enjoys teaching and traveling, as well as the friendships and knowledge gifted by her students and the rug hooking community.
Nancy currently resides in Rustburg, Virginia. Nancy’s email: basket2go@aol.com
