Color, composition, and contrast are the three ingredients to make your hooked rug stand out in a crowd. In this class, we will design your very own wide cut hooked rug while exploring the possibilities of two-dimensional design. Students will explore how to choose color through color theory, the rules of composition, and how to apply what they learn to their hooked rug design. Students should come with ideas and an open mind, since part of this class will be developing our own personal motifs and visual languages to use in our designs.

Hayley grew up surrounded by rug hooking, thanks to her mother Sharon and aunt Deanne, but did not begin making her own rugs and designs until many years later. Hayley holds her education in Fine Arts and after getting her graduate degree in painting in 2011, she founded her online fabric and dyeing shop "Loop-by-Loop", which has blossomed into her full time career. You can also find her hooked rugs and kits there. Hayley gravitates towards rug hooking because it allows her to blend traditional craft techniques with contemporary themes. The ability to make images with the loops makes her feel like she is "painting with wool," which speaks to her love of painting and drawing.
