About the Class

"New adventures in Hooking Landscapes" is all about creating your own landscape with or without architecture. Molly loves barns especially, but you can use your house or any landscape that appeals. Molly uses a wide variety of cuts and also a large variety of mixed materials including various yarns and fibers. She never sticks to a single cut of wool, but prefers to mix everything up, although she is happy with any choice you make regarding cut and fiber.

The class will explore different techniques that may compliment your design, such as mixed media, felting, or quilting to add dimension and interest. At the end of the class Molly hopes that students feel comfortable with a new techniques that can be used on future rugs.

Molly has taken many photos of barns over the years, and students can feel free to choose one of those, or bring their own pattern to work on, or both. Students are also free to bring any and all supplies they think will make their landscape come to life.

About Molly Colegrove
Newark, New York

"I have been in love with creating art and objects from as early as I can remember. As a very young child weekly trips to the bead store were my favorite outing. My  mother was a knitter, so yarn stores were always on the list of places to stop too. I began doing needlework and weaving in my teens and started rug hooking in 1991. I am mainly self-taught, and love to experiment and play with the medium, trying to push the limits of what can be done with it.

I love to hook sculptural forms and landscapes best.  My sculptural pieces are mostly just from imagination. I have been teaching rug hooking and fiber art classes for more than twenty years at such venues as: GMRHG Hooked in the Mountains Rug Show, VT, Habersham Rug School, NY, Mayflower Rug Guild, MA, and Finger Lakes Fiber Arts Guild, NY as well as regional studios and museums.

My work has been exhibited at many different venues around the country and been featured in a variety of publications including Modern Hooked Rugs; A Celebration of Hand-Hooked Rugs XVI and XIII; Beaded Embellishment; Rug Hooking Magazine March/April 2009; Beadwork Magazine, April 2005, Beadwork Magazine, April 2003.

My book, Hooked Rug Landscapes, was published in 2021."
