Can beginners attend Green Mountain Rug School?
Yes! Green Mountain Rug School caters to rug hookers of all levels! If you need help selecting the class that is right for you, please reach out to us and we would be happy to guide you in the right direction!
What is the difference between a class and the hook-in?
The hook-in is a more laid back setting where you can come and go as you please. There is no teacher. We offer you a place to hook surrounded by your fellow artists. You will still have access to the fully stocked shop, rug exhibit and gallery walk as a hook-in attendee. A class, on the other hand, has a more structured setting complete with lessons and a teacher.
What is included with the commuter, single, double and spouse fee?
Commuter fee includes - your 4 day class and 4 lunches
Single fee includes - your 4 day class, 3 breakfasts, 4 lunches and a private room for 3 nights
Double fee includes - your 4 day class, 3 breakfasts, 4 lunches and a shared room for 3 nights
Spouse fee includes - 3 breakfasts, 4 lunches and a shared room for 3 nights
It does NOT include: dinner and extra nights. Please feel free to contact us for a breakdown of the fees based on your specific situation.
Do I need to call the hotel myself and make a reservation or for extra nights?
No, you do not need to call the hotel. Just register online and use the drop down menu to select a single or double room and we take care of everything for you!
What should I bring with me to Green Mountain Rug School?
We will send you an email with more information in the early spring to help you prepare for your stay. In general, you will need hooking supplies (a frame, cutter, hook, wool and your project) and we recommend bringing an additional light source in case the hotel lighting is not satisfactory. If you are flying please let us know as we may be able to help you with supplies you may need but cannot carry on the plane.
Will I have the opportunity to connect with my teacher before the start of Rug School?
Yes, your teacher will contact you approximately one to two months before the start of Rug School.
When does the session start and end?
Check-in is between 10-1 on day one and a welcome lunch will follow at 1PM. Your first class session will start at 2PM. You are welcome to arrive early, our Rug School Shop will open at 9AM.
On the last day, the last class session ends at 3PM.
Can I bring my spouse to Green Mountain Rug School?
Yes! Spouses or friends are always welcome at Green Mountain Rug School. Just register yourself in a double and make a note that your roomate will be your spouse/friend! (There is an additional spouse fee).
How does the waitlist work?
There is no risk and no cost to add your name to the waitlist. It is always worth it to add your name as we get cancellations in through out the year. If a spot in a class becomes available, we will reach out to you and you will be able to make a decision at that time whether you would like the spot or not - you are not required to accept it. In addition, we make every attempt to receive an answer from you via email and phone before we move on. Once you accept the spot we will send you a link to pay your deposit online.
What is the cancellation policy?
Your deposit is your commitment to attend. In return, we commit to hold your spot in the class of your choice. If you must cancel we would be happy to hold your deposit for you to use in full, any subsequent year, however, we are not able to refund any part of it. If you cancel after making your final payment, we will refund all but the deposit amount. We cannot accept any cancellations 1 week before Rug School begins.
Does my deposit count toward the overall cost?
Yes, the $150 deposit goes toward the overall price of whatever session you register for. i.e. If you register for a single room that costs $855, the $150 would go toward the $855 and you would owe $705.
I have looked all over this website and I can't find where the school is held!?
Green Mountain Rug School is held at the Capitol Plaza in beautiful downtown Montpelier, Vermont. The address for the hotel is 100 State Street, Montpelier Vermont. All the classes, breakfast and lunch are also held at the hotel (the only exception is if your class has a note that it will be held at 2838 County Road).
Where is 2838 County Road?
When you go to register, you will see a note in the description "This class will be held at 2838 County Road in Montpelier, Vermont - not in the hotel." 2838 County Road is about a 10 minute drive from the hotel and there will be transportation options available if needed. For 2018 the only class held at this location is Strategies for Dyeing at Home with Suzi Prather. We have deemed that this class is best suited in a space outside the hotel.
